Bio

I'm here to help ambitious people grow their businesses and their careers. In my day job, I help startups identify, acquire, and grow their best customers as a fractional growth lead and growth consultant. Before that, I led the growth team at Census (operational analytics platform) and I followed a winding path to get there. I found my way into digital when I started writing a blog while playing baseball in Europe after college. After that, I dove headfirst into anything I could learn/teach myself about web technologies, code, and UX. I've had a broad range of experiences, from hands-on management of digital campaigns to corporate consulting. I've found I'm happiest making charts go up and to the right in rapidly changing startup environments.

Expertise

  • Go to market strategy

If you want to take an experiment-based approach to growth strategy (is there any other way?) let's talk. Let's talk insights, bets, validation, and feedback loops.

  • Idea validation

I am very passionate about experimentation—and the risk and reward that comes from it. Let's talk about how to frame ideas in the contexts of experiments and structure them so that you can reduce risk and maximize outcomes.

  • Product market fit

I'm a little bit of a ruthless question asker. I question assumptions and I like to question users. I think doing both is critical to any success online.

  • SEO

I've worked on SEO at Postmates and with Snapchat and Instagram as a consultant. I love technical SEO and search experience and believe if you can understand the tech and you can understand the experienced SEO becomes a lot easier.

  • Technology and tools

I'm happy to talk tools. I have been working in tech long enough to tell a good idea from a bad one. I have implemented dozens of analytics implementations and have experience with a range of frontend analytics tools and data warehouse solutions.

Toolkit

  • Drift logo

    Drift

    9 years of experience

The ultimate 80/20 rule marketing tool. Depending on the use case, Drift can be 5x over-implemented but it can also be one of the most effective parts of a lead gen program.

  • Google Analytics logo

    Google Analytics

    16 years of experience

I started my career building out Google Analytics implementations and I've been working with it ever since. I know but the data model, javascript API, and reporting API well.

  • Google Analytics Experiments logo

    Google Analytics Experiments

    12 years of experience

Let's call this Google Optimize. I've done all sorts of weird experiments things with the tool. I love personalization. I've also built SEO A/B testing frameworks.

  • Google Tag Manager logo

    Google Tag Manager

    12 years of experience

I've watched the evolution of GTM closely since its first release. It can do almost anything on the front end, even a lot of things it shouldn't. Please, don't try and get too creative with it.

  • Google Webmaster Tools logo

    Google Webmaster Tools

    16 years of experience

I built keywordclarity.io on top of Google Webmaster Tools so I ended up learning a great deal about the data and the API's (which are a whole lot less limiting than the web interface).

  • Hubspot logo

    Hubspot

    10 years of experience

Hubspot... it has its limitations but its API and numerous data integrations make it an effective tool CRM. I've made a lot of good mistakes with Hubspot and realized there are "good" ways to use it, even if they aren't the "right" ways.

  • Wordpress logo

    Wordpress

    16 years of experience

AKA "30% of the Internet" it's one we have all been involved with at one time or another. I've gotten pretty familiar with the Wordpress "loop" and data models and even written some PHP to make it do interesting things.

Industries

  • SaaS

I've led growth at two B2B SaaS and worked with numerous companies offering offering technical product marketing and early stage go-to-market strategy.

  • Analytics

I've led growth at two companies in the data warehouse/analytics space (Panoply and Census) and worked with numerous companies offering ETL, business intelligence, and predictive analytics.

  • Marketplace

I was the web growth PM for Postmates up until a year before the Uber acquisition. I take a very analytical approach to market research and customer acquisition. I've since worked with Proptech and rental marketplaces.
