Zacharias Voulgaris
Head of Data Science | Technical Author | Consultant in Analytics & A.I. | Entrepreneur
Bio
With a Master's in Information Systems & Technology, and a Ph.D. in Machine Learning, Data Science seemed the most logical career path for me. Although this has been my main focus throughout my career, I've also worked as a project manager, a program manager, an SEO manager, and an entrepreneur for several years. This enabled me to have a good grasp of how the business world works and how data science fits it. A prolific writer, I've written dozens of articles and blog posts, mostly on technical topics such as Data Science, A.I., Cybersecurity, and Data Strategy. Beyond that, I've published seven technical books with Technics Publications on Data-related matters, as well as a sci-fi novel on my own. I continue to publish articles from time to time, mostly on data literacy, privacy, and similar topics. Over the past couple of years, I've also experimented with a podcast on Analytics-related topics, from a Privacy and Cybersecurity angle. If you have any workflows in these areas, I'd be happy to share my experience with you and help you, not just learn about them, but also get passionate and good in these fields. Expertise
Data science
I've worked in this field for 10+ years, authored books on it, and even mentored learners for 10+ years. Currently I work as the head of data science in a startup, while I also do consultation work from time to time.
Remote work
I've worked remotely since 2019 (even before this mode of work became trendy!). Since then, I've learned how to optimize working this way and how to ensure reliability and performance, regardless of the location or the circumstances. If you are new to remote working, I may have some good tips for you.
Technology and tools
Beyond analytics, I can provide guidance on various technologies and tools for developing a product, be it a prototype or a build to deploy in production.
Toolkit
Google Analytics
16 years of experienceI've used G.A. for a year or so, while I was an SEO manager in a small-/medium-sized company. It's quite straight-forward and a good source of insights from web-related data.
Linux
20 years of experienceBig fan of this operating system and its ecosystem. I've used it extensively for several years, gotten familiar with its shell script (bash), and will probably continue to use it in the foreseeable future.
MySQL
24 years of experienceThis is the first database system I've learned and I've used it extensively over the years. I've also mentored several people in the SQL part of their data science learning using MySQL. I'm also familiar with other SQL systems, like PostgreSQL.
Python
18 years of experienceI've worked with Python for several years, on both analytics and scientific projects. Quite familiar with most of its data science libraries, while I've also mentored students of various levels on how to use it in data science and data analytics work.
Tableau
9 years of experienceI've used Tableau for a few years now, mostly for basic analytics work, related to mentoring. Although it's *not* something I'd recommend for a startup due to its high licensing cost, if it's in your stack, I'd be happy to help you with it.
