Bio

I'm a specialist growth marketing consultant helping ambitious startups to roadmap their growth plans. Usually from early stage through to series A. Working as a technical SEO early in my career has given me a great fundamental understanding of how apps/websites work and how users interact with them. Combine that with over a decade of acquisition marketing and I'm confident that I can help your startup to grow. I can also offer advice on funding options (debt capital, equity fundings, VCs, Angels and purpose funding options). I can help with SEO, content marketing, referral strategies, email automation sequences and basically any other organic growth mechanism you could think of. On personal level I like cold beers, wide landscapes and walking my dog. Sometimes all at the same time.

Expertise

  • Advice on funding

VC funding is glamorous, but equity capital from VCs isn't always the best route. Perhaps you could explore Angels, debt capital, purpose-capital or even bootstrapping. Let's discuss. I can make intro's if needed.

  • Content marketing

Producing great content is no longer good enough. You need a framework for mapping content against the buying cycle to maximise conversions. I've done this hundreds of times before and I can help you to do it, too.

  • Go to market strategy

In my day job I work with VCs to audit the go-to-market strategies of their portfolio businesses, so I know what good looks like. I can help you identify the right marketing mix for your startup.

  • Growth marketing

Having a growth mindset means finding the opportunities for growth in everything you do. Building growth into your product or service. Identify the growth opportunity, exploit it, and repeat.

  • SEO

My first technical SEO role was in 2010. Since then I've worked with hundreds of brands to maximise their organic reach with a combination of technical SEO, content, and link acquisition strategies.

Toolkit

  • ActiveCampaign logo

    ActiveCampaign

    12 years of experience

ActiveCampaign is one of my favourite tools for database segmentation and automation. It's a powerful growth tool in the right hands. I can show you how to build your own workflows so you can test and iterate campaigns over time.

  • Ahrefs logo

    Ahrefs

    16 years of experience

I've been using Ahrefs and many other technical SEO tools for well over a decade. One of my favourite platforms for competitor research and SEO performance analysis.

  • Google Analytics logo

    Google Analytics

    18 years of experience

When the fundamentals are in place (Goal tracking, proper attribution modelling, content grouping) GA is easily one of the most powerful free tools available to any marketing. If you're going to use it, use it properly.

  • Google Webmaster Tools logo

    Google Webmaster Tools

    17 years of experience

Google Search Console. If you don't have GSC set up for your website(s), you're missing out on a whole heap of valuable data. I can show you how to make the most of it.

  • Hotjar logo

    Hotjar

    12 years of experience

My go-to heatmapping tool. Although they're soon retiring funnel visualisation, it's still an extremely powerful tool for understanding user behaviour and optimising conversions.

  • Hubspot logo

    Hubspot

    14 years of experience

A fantastic tool for joined up attribution modelling, but I don't often recommend Hubspot as a stand-alone marketing suite as the costs scale so quickly. As a CRM integration, though, it can really enhance the functionality of most other platforms.

  • Mailchimp logo

    Mailchimp

    17 years of experience

Mailchimp has become a lot more powerful than most marketers realise in recent years. I've been using Mailchimp since it was a simple drag n drop email builder and I continue to use it now as a marketing automation platform.

  • Moz logo

    Moz

    15 years of experience

SEOmoz (as it used to be called) was the place where I really started to find my passion for SEO. What was a great community resource is now an accessible suite of SEO research tools.

  • Semrush logo

    Semrush

    15 years of experience

My go-to tool for keyword research, competitor analysis and content gap analysis. It really should be a staple of any growth marketer toolbox. I can help you identify the insights hidden within the data.

  • Wordpress logo

    Wordpress

    17 years of experience

I've been building and optimising WordPress websites since I left university (before, even!). IMO, the best opensource CMS on the market. If you have any WordPress requirements or are unsure how to approach a WP build, I can help.
