Co-founder of Hotjar, SaaS Startup Entrepreneur and Advisor, Engineering Leader
I'm Marc von Brockdorff, a long-time advocate of remote working and co-founder of Hotjar, a SaaS startup launched in 2014. Today, Hotjar employs hundreds of team members from around the globe and has become one of the leading SMB tools for analyzing online user behavior. Throughout my time at Hotjar, I held a number of roles: Head of Frontend Development, Lead Product Manager, and eventually, Director of Engineering. If you're a founder or a leader with an early-stage startup, here are some of the areas I can help with: - Setting up a hiring pipeline - Interviewing techniques - Building teams & org planning - Managing team ownership - Training team leads - Planning and executing organizational changes - Building career ladders - Setting up performance reviews - Creating salary bands - Documenting and communicating your vision to the team - Creating and managing product backlogs - Creating goal-tracking systems for your company - Dealing with technical debt - Optimizing remote communication
As one of Hotjar's co-founders and Director of Engineering, I was directly responsible for creating and scaling our tech team. Through this effort, I helped create our first hiring and onboarding processes and was directly involved in each and every hire. I also coordinated with others to create a tech org structure that reflected the company's needs and helped introduce new goal tracking processes to help teams work towards our vision.
Hotjar was and still is a fully remote company. Through the years, I helped implement several new processes that helped the teams operate and scale more efficiently.
Hotjar is the company I founded. It was built out of the sheer frustration of having to use multiple expensive tools in order to understand the behavior of website visitors.
In the early days of Hotjar, we used Intercom extensively to communicate with our users and get their feedback as we iterated through the initial versions of the product.
I've loved the SaaS industry for as long as I can remember. Most of my experience is in creating engaging SaaS tools that keep users coming back for more.
