Lisa Kennelly
Growth + Product Marketing Advisor and Coach, Mobile apps, B2C, Brand, Leadership
This was one of the best sessions I've had on Growth Mentor! I came away fired up with lots of new ideas, and empowered to tackle the challenges with confidence. I learned about growth levers, and how to start approaching a growth model from scratch. Lisa has a gift for simplifying complex problems and imbuing them with energy. Thanks a lot, I look forward to chatting more!
In just a couple of sessions, Lisa has helped us to define a better North Star that is more directly tied to both Value for our users and Revenue. In addition to this, Lisa suggested some incredibly useful workshops and these have helped us to begin identifying our Key Drivers and Rate Limiting Steps. Ultimately, Lisa's advice is already having a big impact on how we plan and implement growth tactics. I'd 100% recommend you have a call with her and if you're not certain, just go and watch her excellent presentation on JTBDs on the App Promotion Summit YT channel.
Lisa was wonderful to speak with, she was able to validate or question some of my assumptions around marketing. Not only did she provide some great thoughts and suggestions, she also recommended several fantastic resources that have proven to be invaluable tools that I leverage almost daily. Highly recommended!
Bio
Originally from Seattle in the US, I've lived in Boston, New York, Vancouver, Berlin, and currently reside in Stockholm, Sweden. I started my career as a sports journalist (covering the Yankees!) before transitioning over to work in communications, PR, and social media agencies. I've spent the last decade years working for venture-backed high-growth mobile-first B2C startups in Europe. I've also spent the last several years as an advisor to numerous early-stage companies and founders through programs like SYSTM, Norrsken Foundation, Antler, and First Round Fast Track. I'm currently working in product marketing, content strategy, and overall growth at Klarna. You can talk to me about: >How to build a marketing strategy from Day 0 >How to grow your mobile app in a sustainable way >How to scale marketing in your organization - people, channels, disciplines >Which marketing channels to choose and which to avoid >Building and managing a community >Developing a brand identity >PR strategy and how to know when your agency is screwing your over (and when you have a good one) >Company leadership >Content strategy, User Acquisition, Business Development, Partnerships, App Store Optimization, E-Commerce, and more
Expertise
Building a team
I've grown marketing teams from 1 to double-digits - a few times now. Knowing which role to hire for is key, especially when budgets are limited and you can't afford to waste time on the wrong role (or wrong person). I can help look at your roadmap and figure out who to hire when, and why.
Content marketing
I have a background in journalism and writing, so it's not surprising that content has always been at the core of my approach to marketing. Being able to write effectively to reach your target audience is a huge asset in a competitive space. I'd love to talk about how content marketing can fit into your marketing strategy, as well as how to scale it.
Copywriting
Former professional journalist and copy editor here - so I've gotten my hands dirty writing product and ad copy at every company I've ever worked for. Words matter, a lot! I have a particular interest in how copywriting reflects a company's brand voice and tone, and how to scale copywriting within a company.
Go to market strategy
Knowing who your product is for should be the easiest question to answer - yet almost every company or founder I've talked to has a hard time answering it. I can work with you to define your key early audience, how best to reach them, and how to get from MVP to minimum marketable product.
Growth marketing
I've been part of several scale up journeys, where finding and tapping new channels for growth was critical for the company's ongoing existence. Where are the growth opportunities for your business, and how do you evaluate them? How do you build growth into the product - and into your company's DNA? Let's figure it out.
Product marketing
Do you ever feel like your product and marketing teams are not speaking the same language - to the detriment of your growth, let alone your customer experience? I use Jobs to be Done methodology to make sure you know what your customers are "hiring" you to do and how you can communicate that effectively wherever you market your products.
Public relations
I worked in-house at a PR agency for several years and have always owned PR responsibilities within my marketing teams. PR can be a huge asset - or a colossal waste of time. When do you need an agency, and how do you find a good one? What's the point of PR for your stage of company, anyway? I'd love to talk about it.
User research
User research is such a secret weapon for successful companies! Whether you want to run qualitative or quantitative research, through polls, surveys, interviews, or beta testers, I can help you come up with a sound approach to validate your hypotheses and make sure your product resonates with your target customer.
Venting frustration
Sometimes it helps to bang your head against a different door for a change. You're welcome to contact me to talk through a challenge or just get a sympathetic ear.
Toolkit
Amplitude
9 years of experienceI use Amplitude on a daily basis to understand user behavior, analyze cohorts, and review the impact of various product and marketing initiatives. Happy to discuss how we use it at my current company as well as its limitations.
Trello
14 years of experienceTrello is my go-to for project management in marketing teams, especially for establishing clear processes in content development and building in approvals and editing into the system. It's also easy to scale and provides clear task ownership.
Industries
Mobile Apps
As marketing executive and hands-on startup operator, I've spent the last decade working for venture-backed high-growth mobile-first B2C startups, including Clue and Fishbrain. I'm currently working in product marketing and growth at Klarna.
FinTech
At Klarna, I work on directing and aligning the strategic positioning, promotion, and messaging of Klarna's consumer product offerings. I collaborate across different product domains, including the app, card & banking, and payment methods, to work effectively with our growth, marketing, and brand teams to support key business objectives.
