Co-founder of Chirr App
Joshua is great to talk to - the exact kind of Mentor you would hope to find on the platform. Every time I get on a call with him, I leave with a sense of clarity and structure in my thoughts. The session with Joshua was so informative and helpful! Joshua patiently heard and understood my problems before offering me actionable tips on how to solve my issues. He validated many ideas for me on what to focus on and gave me new ideas I could try implementing. He's super friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. I am looking forward to more sessions with Joshua. Thanks a lot.
Amazing call with Josh today. Got a lot of new inspiration and input on how to find a co-founder or similar for my existing business and how to accelerate it. Also valuable mention of the book "Slicing the Pie" and the first time I hear a real-world implementation from the past (which worked pretty well). Thank you so much!
My story in 7 bullet points… 1. Started my career as a corrective exercise coach for people with severe back pain. After 7 years as a physical therapist, I needed a change. I dabbled on the design side of things for a year or two, and UX (whatever that means), but I eventually gravitated towards the tech. 2. At 27, I pulled the trigger and I taught myself how to code. I managed to graduate from Founders and Coders in 2015, an intense software development bootcamp in London that only took on 16 applicants per cohort. 3. Worked as a freelance software engineer for about 5 years after that. 4. Realized that I enjoyed the product side of software development much more than engineering. I gradually began to focus on helping companies improve their user retention metrics. Eventually, I switched to becoming a consultant full-time. 5. At some point along the way, I began using a tool called Chirr App to write Twitter threads. Reached out to the founder, Sasha Koss, and shared my appreciation. We became friends. A year later, I joined the project as a co-founder. 6. Sasha and I now work on Chirr App full-time. We’re a tiny bootstrapped team of 3 and we’re working hard to build a tool that helps teams promote your work on Twitter. 7. A few years ago Elon Musk bought Twitter, which was a disaster for us. So we decided to take some of our eggs out of the Chirr App basket and started working on some new projects around AI, one is a prompt chaining tool called Daisychain and the other is a CMS for prompts called Mind Control. Based on my experience so far, here are a few things I can probably help you with: - I can help you structure a freelance offering and/or find high-paying consulting contracts. If you count my work as an exercise coach and a freelance software engineer, I've worked for myself for over 15 years, in-person and remotely. - I can help you think about finding a great co-founder. A big part of this is luck. Sasha is amazing and we have a fantastic working relationship. But it's not all luck, there are things you can do to improve your odds of finding a good fit. It's more like poker than roulette. I don't know if I am in a position to talk to anyone about startup growth or growing a software business. I'm in the middle of that right now and still figuring it all out. I'm happy to share my experience if you have a specific question but I am no expert. there are better people for that stuff on this platform.
As someone who has worked for themselves for over 15 years, I can help people think about and plan their freelance offerings, and find high-paying contracts by nurturing their professional network.
I have used Pipedrive in the past to manage my professional network and drive referrals and leads for freelance clients. You can use Trello or other free tools, you can just use a spreadsheet if you want to, but Pipedrive was particularly helpful for visualizing and tracking longer sales cycles.
I am most comfortable helping people find contract work at small to medium SaaS products. My experience has always been within the tech industry, there is no reason the principles won't apply to other industries but SaaS is where I can speak from.
